BGH: Louisville RiverFrogs (ECHL)
(Updated January 24, 2005)
The name RiverFrogs was created by an Assistant GM to the AAA Louisville Redbirds, Greg Galiette.
The Louisville RiverFrogs played for three seasons in Louisville, Kentucky 1995-1998. The team played in Broadbent Arena (becoming known thereafter as "The Swamp") at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center (KFEC) and mostly practiced there as well. However, the Arena was frequently not available and many times they had to practice as far away as Columbus, Indiana. The mascot for the RiverFrogs was named Rowdy. The Official Team Colors were forest green, purple, & gold.
The RiverFrogs made the playoffs in the 95-96 season, but were swept by the South Carolina Stingrays in the first round (4-2L, 3-1L, 5-3L).
The RiverFrogs finished 7th of 8 in the ECHL North in 1996-1997 and did not make the playoffs.
At the end of the 1997-1998 season, the team was sold and moved to Florida to become the Miami Matadors. The Matadors franchise went inactive after after the 1998-1999 season. It was moved to Cincinnati to become the new ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones for the 2001-2002 season.
You can view Louisville RiverFrogs ticket price history in the Ticket prices page.
